Hate Comes to Orange County

This is where I'm from...my hometwon...how pathetic and embarrassing. How can these disgusting creatures be filled with so much hate? Reminds me of the Prop 8 rallies. Shame on you Orange County…shame on you California…shame on you America…SHAME!

Cordoba House

I can’t believe that America is even having this conversation. It’s unfathomable that not only New Yorkers but now politicians, national and world leaders and every Joe Schmo is weighing in with his or her unfounded and frankly fascist ideas on this non-debate. There is no debate, there is no point of view, the answer is simple…we live in a country that believes in freedom of religion…period, the end. The fact that there is a contingent in this country that’s trying to deny constitutional freedoms to a specific group for no other justified reason than hurt feelings is the most ludicrous and frankly disgusting show of complete and total ignorance that I have seen in quite some time. Being part of a minority group myself, I am used to this sort of segregational thought and prejudice. However, my gay rights are not written into the constitution of this country. Our country was founded on the very thing that these anti-freedom-of-religion zealots are protesting against. It’s sick, it’s sad and it makes a mockery of what this country should stand for. This issue has nothing to do with the lives lost on September 11th. We all collectively acknowledge what a tragedy that was, an event that changed this country forever and a day that we will never forget. However, the lives lost on that day have absolutely NOTHING to do with our constitutional freedoms. I am not a religious person, I personally think religion is evil and has no place in society. However, I do believe in the freedoms of speech and religion that our constitution grants, and believe every American is free to believe or not to believe, worship or not worship as they wish. No one, and I mean no one has the right to dictate otherwise, not the Governor, not the 9/11 widows and certainly not a rival religious group! The clear hypocrisy at work here is the most confusing part of this whole issue. Why isn’t there a rally in front of St. Patrick’s Cathedral; one of the largest houses of worship in the city, on one of the most expensive and sought after piece of realty in Manhattan? What about the victims of molestation and the hurt feelings of the thousands of families and friends affected by the actions of this church, one of the most powerful religions in the world? That’s not even a question since Catholicism, which is just as, if not more, corrupt than any other religion in the world is the accepted norm, molestation or not. People question where the funds are coming from for this mosque. Why aren’t we questioning where the funds are coming from to protect the Catholic Church, funds used to cover-up the churches disgusting practices? Every religion is the same as far as corruption goes, that has been clear for thousands of years and I am letting my personal views of the Catholic Church get in the way of the point I am trying to make, so I digress. Plain and simple, everyone has a right to worship as they please…whenever and wherever they please, and although I personally do not support organized religion, I do support the freedoms that our constitution grants. Therefore, I fully support the Cordoba House and welcome it with open arms in hopes that it ushers in some sort of collective understanding and tolerance both on a personal and a national level.

Queer Quotes

“Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood. This sets the stage for further repression and violence that spread all too easily to victimize the next minority group. We have a lot more work to do in our common struggle against bigotry and discrimination. I say “common struggle” because I believe very strongly that all forms of bigotry and discrimination are equally wrong and should be opposed by right-thinking Americans everywhere. Freedom from discrimination based on sexual orientation is surely a fundamental human right in any great democracy, as much as freedom from racial, religious, gender, or ethnic discrimination.” ~Coretta Scott King
